I finally got to explore Colorado and it was with my wonderful girlfriend (also named Sam). She was only here for three full days, so we had to pack a lot of stuff into that short time. Sam arrived late Thursday night in Denver. The intern committee let me take a half day Friday so I could get home early to start my weekend with her! Once I left work Friday, we headed to Duca’s Pizza for lunch — definitely recommend the buffalo chicken pizza. The rest of the day was just relaxing until dinner. At 7:00 p.m. we headed over to Fuzzy’s Taco Shop for some tacos and margaritas. Fuzzy’s was a lot of fun and we ended up spending a little more time there than we thought we would. After, we headed to The Rabbit Hole in downtown Colorado Springs. It was a cool atmosphere with great drinks! We ended up staying there for the rest of the night because it was raining out.

Saturday, we started the day by making breakfast and getting ready for our day in Denver! We headed to Denver around noon and once we got there, we walked around and explored the city. Around 4:00 p.m., we sat down at Lodo’s for some wings and fries. Once we finished up at Lodo’s we headed into Coors Field to watch the Rockies take on the Dodgers. It was a great game that ended with a Rockies win! Of course, we had to get a hotdog and lemonade at the ballpark because did you really go to a baseball game if you don’t get a hotdog? After the game, we headed home and ended up watching Fever Pitch before falling asleep.

We got an early start on Sunday and headed to Bon Ton’s Café for breakfast. We both really enjoyed Bon Ton’s and would definitely recommend it! After breakfast, we walked around Old Colorado City and stopped in some shops to see if we could find any shirts or souvenirs. We ended up being unlucky in our search and left empty-handed (except for our stop in Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory). We finally got on our way to hike Garden of the Gods! One word to describe the Garden of the Gods: wow. As great as people said it was, it is hard to put how amazing it is into words. It was definitely our favorite part of the trip. We spent all day exploring the trails. There were many times when would look at a view and it seemed like it was a backdrop — too amazing to be real. Sadly, our day had to come to an end and we left to make dinner.

Monday, we had to get up at 3:45 AM to make sure Sam wouldn’t miss her flight. Overall, it was a great weekend! We got in everything we planned, but we both wish we had a little more time. I finally got around to exploring Colorado (about time) and I’m glad she was here to do it with me!

Until next time,

Sam
